President Joe Biden is not shying away from an impeachment inquiry that aims to question the integrity of his administration.
“Well, I tell you what, I don’t know quite why, but they just knew they wanted to impeach me. Now, best I can tell they want to impeach me because they want to shut down the government,” the President said on Wednesday, September 13 in McLean, Virginia.
The President’s comments arrive one day after Rep. Kevin McCarthy ordered three House committees to launch a formal impeachment inquiry revolving around the business dealings of Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. The Republican lawmaker claims that he has uncovered “serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct.”
“I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. Over the past several months, House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct—a culture of corruption,” McCarthy stated.
McCarthy’s decision to launch an impeachment inquiry without a vote has been met with backlash from the White House. Prior to Joe Biden’s most recent comments, White House spokesperson Ian Sams called the inquiry “extreme politics at its worst.”
“House Republicans have been investigating the President for 9 months, and they’ve turned up no evidence of wrongdoing His own GOP members have said so,” White House spokesperson Ian Sams wrote.
“He vowed to hold a vote to open impeachment, now he flip-flopped because he doesn’t have support. Extreme politics at its worst.”
