Power has reached the point in time when Tommy’s mother and Connie Teresi lying on her deathbed are the two most sensible characters. In short, an overwhelming majority of the characters have reached an unprecedented level of stupidity that is nearly comical. The ninth episode of Power’s fifth season revolves around fatherhood and the relationship between father and son. In one area, Tommy is presented as loving his father to a fault. In the end, he’s put into a position when he has to kill his father and crawl back to his mother because he is heartbroken. In another area, there is nearly a completely opposite situation. Tariq is going to do whatever he can to break away from his father. However, these situations seem to be on a clear crash course to end in the same way. With Tariq electing to stay in New York without his parent’s knowledge, he is going to run into his father’s business at some point. At the very least, he’s going to run into Dre or Tommy at some point. In the end, Tariq is going to be put into a situation where he’s going to have to shoot his father. It’s the only way for him to achieve his apparent goal. Someone is going to have to die.
The penultimate episode of Power’s fifth season is a clear indication that a major character will die in the fifth season finale. In the last two episodes, Power has lost the comedic styling of Kanan Stark and the backstabbing nature of Tony Teresi. With episode ten on the way, it’s clear that someone beyond an accessory character must die. The only element of intrigue revolves around who will it be. Kanan died because he refused to go back to jail. Teresi died because he underestimates the connection he would have to his son, Tommy. One could say that Proctor would be next to go, but even when he’s presented to be on the verge of being disloyal he works to help out Ghost and Tommy. Tommy killed his own father to protect himself and Ghost is on his fiftieth life. The most vulnerable characters heading into Power’s fifth season finale are Ghost’s former love interests, Angela and Tasha. Tasha is presented as always having a greater plan, but her latest plan lost her the loyalty of the one person she wanted to protect, Tariq. Angela is getting killed from every angle imaginable.
