One of the more overlooked aspects of Power is its musical direction. Over the series’ five seasons, it has displayed an ability to place the perfect song at the perfect moment. Not to mention, the series has one of the best theme songs of any drama in recent memory. With all of that being said, there is no soundtrack that could put the air back in the room after the season finale of Power. Instead, the episode cut off with no sound or words.
In episode eight of Power’s fifth season, fans said goodbye to Kanan after a sloppy police shootout. From all walks of social media, fans expressed their sadness and despair. Kanan had died before and this was just confirmation that any character could die at any moment. However, Angela’s death at the end of season five was different. It wasn’t the grand closing that many members of #TeamTasha had been hoping for all along. It was dark. It was ugly and it was heartbreaking. Most importantly, Angela wasn’t the only who died that night.
Ghost died when Angela died. If anything has been consistent about the entirety of this series, it is that Ghost has been consumed with the idea of being with Angela since episode one. It was the only thing that truly kept him going. As time has gone on, those close to Ghost have wished death upon Angela. Somehow, I don’t think anyone truly knew what it would mean to have a Ghost without an Angela. A Ghost without an Angela is unstable and unpredictable. For the entire series, Ghost’s moves have been predictable and easy to understand because he’s always acted with the best interest of getting back together with Angela.
Without an Angela, Ghost is in purgatory. He will never be satisfied and he will never truly be happy. His hunt to find an out will never be over because there is nothing on the other side now. There’s no Tasha. There’s no Tommy and there’s no Angela. There’s nothing to keep him going and to be honest, Ghost has shown a willingness to risk it all to get revenge. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him turn himself and Tommy in just to prove a point. In fact, Tommy and Ghost both turning themselves in may be the only option. Tommy just killed a federal prosecutor at the center of a federal investigation. There’s no dodging this one. If Tommy could’ve kept himself together for two more days, he would have been cleared and everyone would have been able to move on with their lives. Everything was over, but Tommy killing Angela showed us that nothing is ever truly over on Power.
