In Entertainment Weekly’s first look at our new Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, we got to see the new teen heroes in their branded colors, but not in costume. The Power Rangers director David Israelite touched on the vision for the new costumes, saying the approach was to go modern and edgy.
EW’s latest exclusive gives us our first look at the new costumes, which definitely fit the criteria of what Israelite described:

The update to the suits does away with the spandex, as well as the gender-uniform look for each suit (notice the chest area on the Yellow and Pink Rangers). These suits have the advanced tech feel, almost in the realm of an Ironman suit.
Here’s what Israelite and production designer Andrew Menzies said about the suits:
“The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,” director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) says. “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”
“It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume,” production designer Andrew Menzies (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) admits. “Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.” Fans like the Yellow Ranger herself. “It’s the coolest costume ever,” Becky G says. “I’m gonna wear it for Halloween for, like, five years.”
Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24, 2017. The film stars Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, singer Becky G as the Yellow Ranger, Trini, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Zack, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Jason, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Kimberly, and RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Billy.
