Postmates has unveiled a new plan to cover medical costs related to COVID-19 for couriers and merchants. In addition, the food delivery service will waive commission fees for merchants in affected markets. By doing this, Postmates hopes to offer on demand delivery for small businesses at no additional cost.
Adding on, this plan will allow couriers to take preventive tests even if they are not currently diagnosed. In some cases, these tests can cost up to $400. Also, couriers who do not currently have a health account can gain help. Interested couriers can access stipends for COVID-19 related expenses.
“Now is the time to put aside the politics of the gig economy and work with all stakeholders to develop creative and meaningful emergency support for frontline workers who may be exposed — it’s the right thing to do,” Postmates’ Vikrum Aiyer said.
“We know that two-thirds of the individuals that carry out deliveries through the Postmates app have healthcare, but we want to make sure anyone can afford preventative expenses,” he added.
These new initiatives will be rolled out this week. Adding on, interested parties should visit the Postmates site to learn more or click here.
