The New York Knicks are facing a problem, a good problem if there is such thing, but a problem nevertheless.
If you don’t know, (which is nobody) Kristaps Porzingis is a beast, he is balling, forcing many New York Knicks fans to eat crow and once again bow down to Phil Jackson’s superior basketball mind. The Rookie of the Year race has already been diluted down to two candidates. Karl-Anthony Towns and Kristaps Porzingis. KP is doing great so far and is showing growth at an amazing rate.
But onto the problem. Which is the Knicks lineup. We can now see that Porzingis can play at center and hold his own, which begs the question, what about Robin Lopez? Lopez is definitely not a stretch four and if Porzingis goes at the 5, Carmelo can move to power forward, Melo’s favourite position. This possibility is juicy for everyone, everyone but Robin Lopez.
Fisher said he’s “evaluating’’ the starting unit and a change could come imminently. Lopez admitted he has struggled to find the right balance in the triangle offense.
“Defensively, that’s been pretty consistent,’’ Lopez said of his first 24 games as a Knick. “I’ve always been able to fall back on that. Offensively I’m trying to figure things out. How much I’m expected to score? What am I expected to do when I catch the ball in the post? Now I’m getting more comfortable, starting to realize what the role is.’’
Hang on. You can’t say ‘I’m trying to figure things out’ and then say in the same quote ‘I’m getting more comfortable’. That doesn’t work for me.
And you can’t exactly realise what your role is if your role is currently in flux. I reject most of that quote because Fisher is strongly considering putting you, Robin Lopez, on the bench. So prepare for the possibility.
