The NBA announced plans for a new youth training center in India on Wednesday. The project is called NBA Academy India and will be created in the Delhi National Capital Region.
The NBA has announced plans to launch NBA Academy India, an elite basketball training centre for the top male and female prospects from India, in Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). NBA Academy India, which is the first of its kind in the country, and the NBA’s fifth elite training centre globally, will be fully funded by the NBA. NBA Academy India will open in April 2017.
The NBA will conduct a national scouting program beginning later this month to identify the inaugural pool of 24 elite prospects who will receive scholarships and training at NBA Academy India. The 24 prospects will be selected by February 2017.
This is a huge market that the NBA has not really tapped into yet. The large population in India means that the league can have plenty of success. Additionally, growing the game by developing more and more talented basketball prospects across the world is always a welcome sight. This is a great step in making that a possibility and will be a great event for some talented kids wanting to work on their craft.
