The Pistons, who traded Spencer Dinwiddie to Chicago last week, remain on the hunt to re-construct its roster. Along with Dinwiddie, they also moved Brandon Jennings at this season’s trade deadline in exchange for Tobias Harris. Now, they hope to move Jodie Meeks, a sharpshooter who’s played seven seasons in the league.
Meeks, 28, was drafted with the #41 overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2009. Just months into his rookie season, Milwaukee dealt him in a multi-player deal to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Meeks found success in his first season with Philadelphia, making his mark by becoming a lethal three point shooter. His Philadelphia role eventually waned down, and Meeks went on to sign with the Lakers in the 2012 offseason. Meeks’ prime season came with Los Angeles in 2014, where he averaged 15.7 points per game on 40% shooting from deep.
After appearing in 155 games with the Lakers, Meeks signed a three-year deal with Detroit. He appeared in 60 games during the 2015 campaign, averaging 11.1 points per contest. This season, however, he only appeared in three games.
Jodie Meeks, a University of Kentucky product, is still a reliable scorer that can produce double digit points on any given night. Meeks, who’s set to become a free agent next summer, will likely garner interest from multiple teams around the association now that Detroit has put him on the trade block.
One possible destination is a return to Los Angeles. Since leaving the team in 2014, Meeks has remained open to returning back to the Los Angeles area, sources familiar with his thinking said. It’s unclear whether the Lakers are interested in a reunion at this time, or whether or not they would be willing to deal for him at all. If the Pistons somehow can’t manage to deal him by the summer of 2017, which they likely will, Meeks would consider Los Angeles.
Regardless, the Pistons are hopeful of finding a new team for Jodie Meeks. Detroit has been shopping him most of the season, especially around the trade deadline.
Expect Meeks to find a new home soon.
