When Kentavious Caldwell-Pope went down on sunday during a preseason game against the Wizards and got helped off the court, it seemed like the Pistons season was off to a horrible start, potentially losing their starting shooting guard this season.
But according to reports, KCP’s injury isnt as serious as first expected. In fact, he might just need some rest and will hop right back on the court for the Detroit Pistons.
Vincent Ellis of the Detroit Free Press:
Good news on KCP front: SVG says in text MRI clear. Muscle irritation and not a long term concern. No timetable for return. #Pistons

Dave Pemberton of The Oakland Press:
#Pistons announced MRI results on Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s left knee showed no structural damage. The injury is a left knee strain.

Pemberton continued to add:
Caldwell-Pope will miss this week’s preseason games at Charlotte, Orlando and Atlanta and will be re-evaluated in Detroit next week.

The battle for Detroit’s starting point guard should be KCP’s to lose as long as he’s healthy. The Pistons acquired Jodie Meeks in the offseason but Caldwell-Pope would be my choice as the starting two guard for the Pistons. Caldwell-Pope is the higher-upside option no matter who starts for the Pistons this year. Not only is he younger, he’s more athletic as long as he stay healthy the only way to go for Caldwell-Pope is up and if I was a Pistons fan, I’d be praying for a fast recovery for KCP.
