Beno Udrih was waived by the Miami Heat the other day, just a couple months after agreeing to re-sign with the team. It was supposed to be a small reunion with him back on the squad and also playing with his fellow countryman Goran Dragic. Unfortunately, the Heat didn’t see it that way.
They kept Rodney McGruder on the team in his place and Beno hit the waiver wire. Luckily for him, he didn’t have to wait too long. He was just claimed off waivers by the Detroit Pistons, a team looking for a backup point guard.

Beno can come in and play some solid minutes behind Ish Smith as Reggie Jackson recovers. Even when Reggie comes back, Udrih can be a deep point guard or off guard if needed. It’s a solid signing of a veteran point guard on a team that needed some depth.
Reggie Jackson is expected back to the team in about six weeks after suffering a knee injury earlier this month.
