It may hard to believe, but it has only been two weeks since George Floyd was killed at the hands of police in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In the fourteen days since his death, protests have erupted not only nationwide, but worldwide. As time has gone on, Washington, D.C. has become a major hub of demonstrations. This week, it will not only be home to organizers, but it will also host testimony from the Floyd family.
This week, George Floyd’s brother, Philonise Floyd, is set to testify before the House Judiciary Committee. Floyd will offer testimony regarding police brutality as the House of Representatives prepares to review legislation regarding the matter.

As the Floyd family prepares for Capitol Hill, Minneapolis continues to be focal point of police reform. Over the weekend, Minneapolis City Council voted to dismantle the city’s police force.
While it is unclear what legislation House Democrats are looking to unveil, it is clear that police reform will be a focal point on Capitol Hill and around the country as we inch towards local and federal elections in November.
