This guy is real desperate to play as a starter. He got muscled out of Cleveland thanks to J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert, he’s the 6th Man in Oklahoma City. Dion Waiters simply can’t catch a break!
Here’s how I can see a conversation with me and Waiters goes down. “Winning? Screw that” he says, “I want to go home.” But Dion, home is to Philadelphia, home of the worst team in basketball. “And your point is?”
That’s right, Dion Waiters wants to go home to the ‘bottom of the barrel’ Sixers.
“He wants to come home,” said the source, noting that Waiters is from South Philly. “Plus, he knows that he could be the missing shooting guard they need. And he could possibility get a [very lucrative] contract with the Sixers.”
The source said that Waiters won’t publically admit his desire to play for the Sixers because he’s still under contract with the Thunder….
“He really would like that to come home,” the source said. “He talked about getting a place downtown not too far from the arena so playing at home would be less of a distraction.”
I blame LeBron for this, if he didn’t ‘go home’ and do all that advertising around it, Dion Waiters would be fine in OKC, fighting to get a ring. But no, he wants to be a superhero and go help the Sixers.
Now knowing Sixers GM Sam Hinkie, I bet he won’t even give an offer to Waiters, Hinkie is so backwards that he wouldn’t take a Waiters that would substantially help his team.
But if I’m wrong and Hinkie actually uses his brain, could OKC really afford to lose him? Dion is vital to their second unit, KD and Westbrook can’t do it all (believe that or not) Philadelphia could really screw up OKC’s summer which already has Durant on the check list. Imagine if they lose both. Westbrook would probably have the greatest individual season we’ve ever seen. 2001 Iverson.
And is Waiters even a leader? He whined his way out of Cleveland, he rubs people the wrong way. He wouldn’t even be the leader of the Sixers! Why bother?
UPDATE as of 15/11/15 – 3:25pm ET
Just as I say ‘why bother?’ Dion Waiters shuts down the initial report by the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Following the Thunder’s recent win over the Philadelphia 76ers, a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer sited an unnamed source saying that Waiters has his eyes set on playing for his hometown team in the near future.
On Sunday morning, Waiters responded to the rumors on Twitter.
“(Don’t) Believe everything y’all hear lol I guess this what the world coming to (shaking my head), especially if it didn’t come from me,” Waiters tweeted. “I (don’t) need or want the attention I never been that guy…I’m not worrying about money I’m chasing a championship with my bros…#ThunderUP.”
Guess that’s that. No chance for Philly to screw up again.
