The Philadelphia Eagles are locked in for a playoff run and are trying to strengthen their running game. The Eagles and Dolphins announced that they have agreed to terms on a trade. The trade will send running back Jay Ajayi to the Eagles in exchange for a 4th round pick.
The #Dolphins get back a fourth-rounder for #RB Jay Ajayi, who now solidified the #Eagles run game. Unreal.

Prior to the trade the Eagles had three 4th round picks. Their own, one obtained from Minnesota, and from the Patriots. It’s not clear yet which one the Dolphins will receive.
The trade for Ajayi shows that Philly thinks that they are in a position to make a strong Super Bowl push this season considering they do not have a 2nd or 3rd round pick and draft picks are crucial for a rebuilding franchise.
The Eagles have been trying a stable of backs this season but, none of them have emerged as a bonafide stud. However, the team is still currently ranked 5th in rushing yards per game. Look for Ajayi to handle early down work with LeGarrette Blount continuing to clean up in short yardage and goal line situations.
With the loss of Jason Peters, Ajayi’s biggest contribution will likely be in the passing game. Before his season ending injury Darren Sproles was the Eagles best pass protector and the team has been trying to replace him all year. Carson Wentz is the end all be all of Philly’s playoff chances so protecting him is key.
The trade could signal the beginning of a rebuild in Miami, however at 4-3 they are not out of it just yet. The Dolphins could just be trying to shake things up considering they haven’t scored a rushing touchdown all season.
Ajayi is on a down year only rushing for 465 yard on 138 carries but, he’s coming off a 1,200 yard 8 touchdown 2016 campaign.
The trade comes days after Miami head coach Adam Gase ripped the offense, “We’re the worst offense in football. It’s hard to go lower than that.”
