Philadelphia 76ers not only defeated the Kings on the court, their social media people caught a big win off the court Friday night, as well.
DeMarcus Cousins might have dominated, scoring 39 points and grabbing 24 rebounds but the Sixers pulled off a 114-107 win. That’s when the always genius social media people for the Sixers decided to throw shade at the Kings and their new coach George Karl. Following the game, the Sixers’ Snapchat account reminded Kings coach George Karl of a comment he made back in September, while he was working for ESPN.
Here are Karl’s quotes while working for ESPN, courtesy Hoop 76.
“What is happening in Philadelphia should not be called ‘tanking’; rather, it should be called ‘destruction.’ The Sixers are at least three to five years away from even being a respectful — respectful — NBA roster. They are worse than they were at the end of last year. Three of the five starters barely played last season. I understand building around talent, but people have to understand that sometimes young players just don’t develop. You put all your eggs in that basket, but if the kids don’t pan out, you’re sunk.
“I think this roster has such a low level of talent they’ll be hard-pressed to win an NBA game. To put this team through another season of turmoil will be devastating. What is being built in Philadelphia is not the development of young players, but instead a culture of losing.”
Karl now finds himself in a situation similar to the one he talked about back in September. His Kings are right with the Sixers in the bottom of the NBA standings. Karl became the Kings’ coach on Feb. 12 and has gone 4-8 since taking over the team. The Sixers have 15 wins on the season, their most recent of course, coming against the Kings. Compare the Sixers wins to Karl’s Kings, who only have 22 and they are right with Philadelphia atop the ‘Tankathon’ standings.
