Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks will be under the biggest microscope following their disgusting season last year, hitting all-time franchise lows, and for the Knicks that’s a lot to say. A franchise that has had a storied battle between bad and good players and consistently trying to please it’s always angry fans.
Despite Knicks fans being in anger over the selection of Kristaps Porzingis, the Knicks feel confident with their selection, and their confidence in their selection starts with Phil Jackson. Phil has previously mentioned that he doesn’t envision staying here as long as his contract expects him to. According to Howard Beck of Bleacher Report, Phil Jackson could leave in 2 years time:
Jackson has four years left on his contract and speaks openly about this being a short-term exercise. He wants to put the franchise on solid footing, then turn it over to the next guy—ideally before a potential labor stoppage in 2017.
If Jackson wants to turn this club around before 2017, he has two years to turn the Knicks into a contender, is that possible? Yes. They will still have Carmelo, a growing Kristaps, a young point guard in Jerian Grant, and literally anyone else who wants to sign with the New York Knicks this summer. The process starts now for the Knicks, who barely have a roster going into the season. They will look to fit some genuine needs, including some strength at the forward position. Could David West or Greg Monroe be the Knicks savior?
