Let’s get this straight Goran Dragic would not do well in a triangle offense. Despite his interests in the Knicks and other teams, Dragic was traded to Miami by Phoenix, and later on re-signed with the Heat. The Knicks really had no say in the matter and never had enough to offer for Dragic, but the thought of Dragic in a Knicks uniform is something Phil Jackson has had for a while:
According to Charlie Rosen of ESPN:
“Goran Dragic, for one. I heard through the grapevine that he was open to coming here. We worked hard on that possibility, but the asking price was too dear. Maybe we worked on that possibility so much so that it distracted us. I mean, Dragic is every team’s current choice for a nuclear option — a guard who can penetrate and either score or kick. Guys like Chris Paul and James Harden. But, anyway, that’s not really the way I want us to play.”
Jackson still hasn’t found his point guard of the future. Has he found it in 19th overall pick Jerian Grant? That’s a wait and see process but for now this is Carmelo Anthony’s team. With Afflalo, Anthony and Lopez as the core of this team, they can try to make the Playoffs next year, which I doubt. The Knicks have a long way to go from being a Playoff team, even in the East. The East has improved and so have the Knicks, but they’re still a few pieces away from the Playoffs.
