Phil Jackson has been touring the best colleges in the country recently. Scouting out the best talent to see whether they’re worthy to be in the Knicks famous blue, white and orange. Sure he flapped his lips about Buckeyes’ guard D’Angelo Russell but that didn’t really matter. At least it doesn’t now.
In the offseason. Teams either build through the Draft or through free agency. You’d assume that the Knicks would tank for someone like Okafor or Mudiay or Kaminsky. You know. A big man that can play. Ever since Tyson Chandler they’ve been trash. As a matter of fact. They have needs everywhere! So why is it that according to the New York Post, Phil Jackson is going to focus more on free agency.
“In the present day in the NBA, 19, 20 years old, coming into the league, it’s really hard to project what that player will be like in his first contract situation,’’ Jackson added. “So what we’re trying to do what advancement can be made in the short term. How quickly we can get back in the hunt and right away to [compete] for the championship? We know what the first-round pick will mean to us, but we also know we will build the team on free agents.
“We have 190 players or so who will be free agents. … That’s where our priority stands.’’
190 free agents. Now that eclipses the Draft. But Phil is acting like he is going to trade away all his picks.
He is going to focus on the Draft. He has to. Young talent is always needed for every team. It’s not like they’re going to win anytime soon. They might as well do what Philadelphia are doing (I threw up a little typing that)
