Alright I understand that the Knicks need to move on and start to grab some free agents. They failed hard last offseason with LaMarcus Aldridge and even though they got Kristaps Porzingis, who is probably going to be way better than LMA, it wouldn’t have hurt.
Moving onto now and the Knicks really don’t have that much to plug. I keep saying that location doesn’t mean nothing anymore, saying “come play in MSG” isn’t enough anymore, you need to plug the future and for the Knicks, that future is Kristaps Porzingis and, well that’s about it. Phil Jackson plans to use KP’s potential as a key selling point this offseason.
Jackson said he believes there’s more to sell than last summer, when coming off a 17-win campaign with rookie phenom Kristaps Porzingis then a relative unknown except in Latvia and Seville, Spain. The Knicks president also will peddle the 15-game increase in victories that brought them to 32-50.
“We’re talking about a team in the making,” Jackson said. “We’ve had so many people come up to us and say they really want to play for a guy like KP, which is a nice thing to hear from various agents who have players who want to play with a young guy who’s progressing, who has ability to rise in this league, So we feel we have an attractive product here.”
Well he’s not wrong. They do have more to sell than last year, but they’re still relatively small in terms of teams that will court free agents this offseason.
And personally I don’t think they need a point guard. I think they should put stock in Jerian Grant, maybe try and get a small forward or a shooting guard that gets buckets. Just a suggestion. But then again, I don’t have 11 rings eh Phil?
