Phil Jackson fully intends on fulfilling the final two years of his contract with the Knicks, according to Bleacher Report’s Kevin Ding.
Jackson fully intends to finish the two years after this season on his Knicks contract, according to NBA sources. Despite all the attention on his opt-out clause in 2017, he might even want to do a new deal that starts in 2019.
Fans across the country have speculated whether Jackson may bolt New York and opt out of his deal next summer, with the most talked about landing spot being his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers.
Jackson’s stint with the Knicks has been an up-and-down roller coaster so far. To his credit, the “Zen Master” has made some exceptional decisions as Knicks president, such as drafting Kristaps Porzingis with the No. 4 pick in 2015.
However, his public outbursts and takes on Porzingis and his “talent”, LeBron James with his “posse”, and Carmelo Anthony with his “ball-holding” have caused vast confusion and disapproval across New York.
Jackson, up until earlier in the month, remained silent on his “posse” comments. According to Kevin Ding, Jackson is sad about how the whole situation went down:
He’s saddened that LeBron James and others are upset about Jackson’s “posse” remark, particularly the racial interpretations.
Phil Jackson has a decision to make: He can stay with the Knicks until his contract expires and then decide his future from that point, or bolt the team next summer and opt-out of his current deal. For now, he’s committed to guiding this Knicks team towards being contenders in a competitive Eastern Confefence.
