Ever since July 1st came around. It’s been a frantic fight for time. Time for teams to sit down and woo them so that said players suit up and play in Madison Square Garden next season and beyond.
Now the signings weren’t exactly mind blowing, they were solid signings. Derrick Williams, Arron Afflalo, they’re decent. But not exactly LaMarcus Aldridge am I right? Now Phil Jackson has been trying to create a team so that Carmelo Anthony can flourish. But how can Phil do that if he hasn’t talked to Melo since July 1st?
“Well, you know, we’re a team sport,” Jackson said. “When we’re putting a team together that’s our first priority; how do we make a team that works together? That’s the important aspect. How this all comes together is still a mystery for us. We’ve got five months to kinda get into it here.
“Obviously Carmelo is a guy that is a premier player, we understand that. But it’s a team game. And it has to fit together.”
“We need to win … be a competitive team,” he said. “I think we showed agents and players around the league a serious nature of what we’re trying to get accomplished. People who know basketball will recognize that and we’ll get people who want to come here.”
I understand that Jackson wants to state the fact that it’s a team and it’s not just about Melo. But not hitting him up just to touch base?
It’s not hard just to ask “how you feeling about our moves?” you know. Communication is key. And they’re clearly lacking that.
