The family of 29-year-old Peter Bernardo Spencer is demanding answers after he was shot and killed at a cabin in rural Pennsylvania.
The events that led to Peter Bernardo Spencer’s death began in mid-December. According to ABC News, a few of the 29-year-old’s coworkers invited him to spend time at a cabin in Rockland Township, Pennsylvania on December 11, 2021. Hours later, police were called to the cabin. When they arrived, Spencer was dead and appeared to have sustained nine bullet wounds.
In the aftermath of Spencer’s death, authorities examined the crime scene and recovered “ballistic evidence.” As authorities investigated the cabin, four men were brought in for questioning, but no one was criminally charged. Elsewhere, the Venango County Coroner examined Spencer’s body and found that he had been shot in the abdomen, buttocks and mouth.
Nearly a month after the shooting, the family of Peter Bernardo Spencer is still searching for answers and calling out those involved in the investigation. Paul Jubas, the family’s lawyer, has said that the coroner’s report is a “misrepresentation” of what happened. According to a report from ABC News, it appears that Spencer was shot in the back and not just the abdomen. The family has also moved to release photos of Spencer’s body from the autopsy.
“They are trying to sweep this under the rug,” Spencer’s sister, Tehilah, wrote on a GoFundMe page.
“We will not let them. He was slaughtered and killed in what I consider an act of modern-day lynching!”
At this time, ABC News reports law enforcement officials will not publicly comment on the investigation of Spencer’s death “out of concern for the impact that may have on a case and any potential charges.”
“Further disclosure of information may hinder or interfere with the investigation moving forward,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement obtained by ABC News.
Despite pushback, Spencer’s family has pushed for the release of more information regarding his death.
“The Franklin state troopers office will not give Peter’s family nor myself any information regarding this incident,” Carmela King, Spencer’s pregnant fiancee, stated.
“We have been turned away several times while trying to reach out for information regarding what happened.”
To this point, none of the four men who were questioned have been identified by name. Furthermore, there is no indication that any details of the investigation will be shared with the public at any point.
