The popular children’s book series Pete The Cat is being developed as an animated television series, as announced by Alcon Entertainment co-founders and co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove. Alcon has acquired the rights to Pete The Cat from author James Dean, who created the character in 1999 and will serve as a Consulting Producer on the television project.
Pete The Cat showrunners will include Swampy Marsh, executive producer and co-creator of the Disney Channel original show Phineas and Ferb. Marsh will executive produce along with Johnson, Kosove, Alcon Television President Laura Lancaster and Appian Way’s Partner Jennifer Davisson. Appian Way was responsible for bringing the project to Alcon in the first place.
Dean’s first novel, Pete The Cat: I Love My White Shoes, initiated a #1 bestselling series on the New York Times list for Picture Books. Pete The Cat has over 22 publishings of storybooks, songbooks, and picture books.
