Who needs an arena these days? We’ve seen college basketball be played on an aircraft carrier, an airplane hangar, ball rooms of hotels, and now baseball stadiums.
Sporting News is reporting that Petco Park, the home of the San Diego Padres, will host a college basketball game between city rivals, San Diego State and University of San Diego. The court would be set up in the stadiums outfield with temporary stands that will sit close to 20,000 people.
“Both schools have agreed to a one-year contract to play outdoors at Petco Park in December. The teams have played annually since 1998, but a four-year contract expired after this season, prompting rumors that the teams would not continue to play each other.”
Basketball outside in December? I need to get out of New York.
