Monday Night Football. Primetime. Bright Lights. What a spectacle it would’ve been had Percy Harvin’s 3 touchdowns counted. Due to penalties, Percy Harvin had 3 TDs nullified, and those penalties made the game much more competitive than necessary.
Of the 13 flags thrown during their Monday night matchup against Washington, Seattle’s offensive line committed over half of them. The worst infraction perhaps was a blown call in which guard James Carpenter’s clean block got flagged for unneccessary roughness. The penalty nullified a 41 yard touchdown pass to Harvin, and enraged Seattle’s coaching staff. OL Coach Tom Cable expressed his disgust with the outrageous call:
“It was [a bad call]. He just finished it. I always tell those guys: You don’t worry about stuff like that as long as you’re doing it right. If it’s late, if it’s something that’s stupid, I don’t want it. But that wasn’t.”
With his 3 TDs nullified, fantasy owners nationwide were frustrated. All-pro safety Earl Thomas felt bad for Percy, and not necessarily because of the on-field incidents.
“Percy Harvin — my little brother, I know he’s pissed off because we were going at it at in a fantasy league. I had Russell Wilson, and he had Percy Harvin, and they called all the touchdowns back, so I know he’s pretty upset.”
Thomas continued,
“I just think it’s Monday Night Football, you know the fans are watching, and everybody wants to see a good game, so they’re gonna try to make it as close as possible. It’s a business.”
…thus echoing the nation’s sentiments.
