So before I dive into this discussion fully, I want to do a precursor or note before I begin. Take every rumour that you hear about the DCEU and specifically anything to do with Batman with a huge grain of salt. Like, ocean grain size salt I’m talking here. But regardless, It’s great news and it’s always fun for comic book fans and fans of the movies to speculate what favourite comic book character we will see adapted into film version next.
Now with that being said, there is a rumour that the Penguin could be the next villain to face off against Batman in Matt Reeves upcoming adaptation of the Dark Knights story. Justin Kroll of Variety News broke the story (also with a huge grain of salt):
Take this with a grain of salt as things are constantly changing in the DCEU but I'm hearing the Penguin is possibly the choice to play the main villain in THE BATMAN. Sources add even if Reeves decide to go another route the studio could then make him the main villain in BOP

Reeves is still working on the script, so that could always change but of the multiple BIRDS OF PREY scripts submitted, one does have the Penguin as the main heavy. Either way, it seems WB wants this character cast in the universe sooner rather then later.

So it seems that the DCEU want to involve the character into their universe in some way. Even if it doesn’t involve the Batman, the Birds of Prey movie (which was announced just months ago) may have just got its new villain. I’d actually prefer to see Penguin go against the Birds of Prey because it will make for such a funny movie. On top of that, movie wise, Batman has already faced foes that have been easy to defeat. Now saying Penguins grit isn’t tough but he doesn’t necessarily have the ‘physique’ to have a 1 on 1 showdown with Batman. Can we just get what we we’re promised in a Batman v Deathstroke movie?
