The New Orleans Pelicans seem to be fine with the team they have right now. They’ve made it a mission to lock everybody up for the long-term and really push for the Playoffs and beyond.
They didn’t get any Draft picks, they’ve just focused on the players they have. Players like Omer Asik, Dante Cunningham and most notably Anthony Davis. Their last one on the list is Norris Cole who they got from the Miami Heat during last season. He’s an unrestricted free agent which means the Pelicans can match any offers another team makes. But according to NOLA.com. They won’t go out of their way to get him.
The Pelicans can match any offer Cole receives, but the Pelicans have committed a portion of their $5.5 million mid-level exception after small forward forward Dante Cunningham agreed to a three-year, $9 million deal on Saturday afternoon.
The Pelicans also have their full $2.1 million bi-annual exception still available.
Still, Cole could be the toughest among the Pelicans’ targeted players they are pushing to bring back, sources say. If another team makes a substantial offer, it could put the Pelicans out of range from their available money they could pay him.
Now I’ve watched Norris Cole for some time while he was with the Heat, and I’m not sure if he wasn’t utilised properly or not, but he really isn’t all that. Now he seemed to be more comfortable in New Orleans, which tells me that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it right?
