The New Orleans Pelicans season is not just over, but now the problems that hindered them this season are already starting to spill over into the next.
Injuries are something that affects every team, no team goes a full season without some injuries to the roster. But the Pelicans just cannot escape it. To me it seems everytime I see a news clipping about the Pelicans it’s about somebody being injured for a significant amount of time. Oh look! Another one! Alonzo Gee and Jrue Holiday will not be on the court for the rest of the season.
The Pelicans announced Tuesday that Jrue Holiday suffered a fracture to his right inferior orbital wall and Alonzo Gee ruptured his right quad in Monday’s 99-91 win over the New York Knicks at Smoothie King Center. Both are done for the season.
Meanwhile, Ryan Anderson, who missed his fifth straight game Monday, has been diagnosed with a sports hernia and will get a second opinion from a specialist in Philadelphia, according to the Pelicans. And Norris Cole, out for the past 11 games with a lower back injury, has experienced “back discomfort,” according to the team, and is considered day-to-day.
Anthony Davis, gone. Pondexter, gone. Evans, Gordon, Dejean-Jones all gone. And now you can add Jrue Holiday and Alonzo Gee on the list, with Ryan Anderson and Norris Cole looking like they’re next on the list.
I’m sorry, who do they have left?! Have they just called up their entire D-League affiliates?
