When the New Orleans Pelicans 2014-15 season came to an end, so did the tenure of Jimmer Fredette with the Pelicans, for the time. In the offseason, he signed with the San Antonio Spurs but he was waived before the season started.
The former Men’s College Basketball Player of the Year was a free agent but he was drafted by his hometown Westchester Knicks and the BYU star was finally home.
That is until the Pelicans, who are currently in the middle of a strange flux with their roster, elected to re-sign Fredette.
Following from Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports.
Jimmer Fredette – the No. 2 pick in the NBA Development League draft by the Westchester Knicks – has re-signed with the New Orleans Pelicans under the injury hardship exception, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Charania also reports that Fredette’s D-League rights will remain with the Westchester Knicks.
Fredette played 50 games with the Pelicans last year, averaging 3.6 points and 10.2 minutes per game including a season-best game on December 31, 2014, with 14 points and 3 rebounds in a 95-93 overtime loss to the Spurs.
Can Fredette be the saving grace for this already damaged and decimated Pelicans team that has started the season 0-6? It’s highly unlikely but it would be a great sight to see Fredette finally see his full potential in the NBA.
