New Orleans Pelicans were a team expected to make a little bit of noise coming into this season, especially led by the preseason MVP favorite, Anthony Davis.
Unfortunately the Pelicans have been bit something serious by the injury bug and have just been trading wins and losses for the majority of the season and sit at 21-20 right now. First it was Eric Gordon who went down earlier in the season due to an injury and as of recent, Anthony Davis was even fighting off an injury.
Now, the second best player on the team, point guard Jrue Holiday, is slated to miss some time due to a reaction to an old injury.
Official statement from the Pelicans page.
The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that guard Jrue Holiday is expected to miss the next 2-4 weeks. Additional tests by team physicians yesterday revealed that Holiday developed a stress reaction in his right lower leg. Holiday will be held out of basketball activities until his symptoms improve and will be re-evaluated each week.
In 37 games this season, Holiday averaged 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 7.1 assists in 33.7 minutes per game. The 6-4 guard holds career averages of 13.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 6.1 assists in 369 contests.
Hopefully the young point guard won’t let this impact his career. He’s only 24 but is already a 5 year veteran and paired up with Davis, the future is bright in New Orleans
This will then force the Pelicans to start Tyreke Evans at the point guard, a position he’s familiar with playing in the past. Evans may be hot off hitting a game-winner against the Toronto Raptors recently, but his best spot might be coming off the bench. He averages 18.7 points per game as a starting guard but off the bench, albeit in 3 games, Evans averages 20.7 points per game. Evans should be a serviceable replacement as the starting point guard while Holiday is out.
