The New Orleans Pelicans have a team that can win games. The team clearly revolves around Anthony Davis and why not. The guy is a complete savage. But they’re record does not show their potential. They have been stuck in and around .500 all season. I don’t see them getting much better. With that said something is wrong.
Well according to RealGM. Pelicans head coach Monty Williams blames himself for their extremely average record.
“I am not doing a good job of getting our guys to play the same way every game,” he said. “That has plagued us all year-long. We’ve got to — I’ve got to — figure out. We play selfish. We separate when things don’t go well, especially on the road. That’s something that falls on my lap and we’ve got to figure that out.”
“The guys we have on the floor aren’t doing it consistently,” Williams added. “We have done it before and that’s the coach’s responsibility.”
“It doesn’t matter when San Antonio has guys out, they play the same way every night,” the coach said. “Until we do that, we’re going to be fighting ourselves for the rest of the season.
“That’s why we’re all frustrated. We’ve seen our team play at a high level.“
The team is fine. I think it’s a mixture of injuries and therefore chemistry. Williams has to find a balance. I don’t think it’s an excuse anymore. You’ve had the same core players for a few years now. The Chicago Bulls have survived without Derrick Rose for two years. They managed to make something out of it. It’s not like Davis has been out for half a year. He’s healthy. The team is relatively healthy. They’re not what they’re record suggests. But they have to find their extra gear at some point.
