The New Orleans Pelicans haven’t had the season we thought they would have. When Alvin Gentry got the Pelicans job, seemingly simultaneous with his season ending as championship winning assistant coach, we thought that the Pelicans would be sorted for the future. Anthony Davis leading the team with offensive mastermind Alvin Gentry as head coach. Gentry was hyped about the new opportunity. What could possibly go wrong?
The team. The team behind Davis is terrible, they can’t get W’s and now we know that Anthony Davis has been injured for the past three years, it’s not exactly great in the Big Easy, and now Pelicans GM Dell Demps is displaying regret.
Dell Demps hired Alvin Gentry as his coach. And sources tell me that he spent way too much of this year second-guessing his own hire as a head coach – often in very public ways within earshot of players, staff and even opponents.
If anyone should be negative, it’s Dell Demps for creating this team, it’s totally unsustainable. So if any higher ups feels like firing somebody, it should be Dell Demps before Alvin Gentry. Gentry has only been there for a year, why fire him over a season?
