Danny Ferry, former Atlanta Hawks general manager, was seemingly ostracized by the NBA and the powers that be essentially for doing his job but with a strange and unfortunate twist to it. Ferry was entangled in a scandal with the former Hawks management and he was plastered as the poster boy for the Hawks being an organization with internal issues.
Ferry, along with other members of the Hawks organization were quickly moved out of power and new ownership took over and made head coach Mike Budenholzer the president of basketball operations in the ATL. Ferry was out of a job and it didn’t look good for his future. Now it appears that Ferry is being given one more chance by an NBA team looking to restore their roster in the New Orleans Pelicans.
Following from an official Pelicans press release.
New Orleans Pelicans General Manager Dell Demps announced today the hiring of Danny Ferry as a Special Advisor.
“I am excited to announce Danny Ferry has accepted our offer to join the New Orleans Pelicans basketball operations staff as a special advisor,” said Demps. “Danny’s experience, insight and achievements will be a welcomed addition to the Pelicans as we continue our quest to improve the team.”
Marc Stein of ESPN reports that Demps was indeed the one campaigning to add Ferry to the front office.
ESPN sources say that the Pelicans are hiring Danny Ferry at the urging of GM Dell Demps, who worked closely with Ferry in San Antonio.

When the report initially surfaced, it appeared that Ferry was the man who might be next to take over for Demps once the Pelicans decide to move on from him but with the report of Demps being the one to cape for Ferry to be brought into NOLA, that might not be the case. Still, Demps has been on thin ice with the organization for a while so having an already established NBA general manger in-house, should help the Pelicans process, if they do decide to pull the trigger.
