On Wednesday night the New Orleans Pelicans played their 2nd most important game of the season. Yes, their 2nd most important. The most important game they played, was the game they played against the Oklahoma City Thunder and Anthony Davis hit the buzzer beater.
But for Monty Williams and GM Dell Demps, the game vs. the San Antonio Spurs was the most important game of their jobs and maybe even careers.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski:
Ownership gave GM Dell Demps and Monty Williams preseason mandate to make playoffs to keep jobs, w/ no allowance for injuries. They made it.

Now the New Orleans Pelicans have clinched the 8th spot in the Western Conference playoff where they will play the strongest team coming into the Playoffs the Golden State Warriors. Although some credit is deserving, the OKC Thunder were heavily depleted, and the Phoenix Suns were dealing with constant changes.
Either way, Monty Williams saves his job and the Pelicans have the impossible task of trying to beat the Golden State Warriors.
