Paul Pierce banked in an incredible shot to beat the Hawks at the buzzer to save Washington from giving up a 21-point 4th quarter lead in game 4. That shot can be seen here.
After the game, the Hawks were understandably bitter after falling just short of an incredible comeback. This bitterness came through in the words of backup point guard Dennis Schröder.
Schroder said of Pierce’s game-winner: “It was a lucky shot and we lost the game.”
When the Truth was informed of Schröder’s remarks, he gave an amazing response, as per usual.
“I guess Schröder’s going to say that ’cause he’s a little young,” Pierce said. “He hasn’t been able to see it over the past 17 years.
“He probably missed with me in 2K,” Pierce continued. “He probably used me and missed.”
Pierce is poking fun at Schröder’s age here, and understandably. Schröder couldn’t legally drink(in the United States anyways) until this past September. Pierce on the other hand, was drafted to the NBA when Schröder was just 5 years old.
While Schröder’s comments may have some merit, it’s hard to call a clutch shot by Paul Pierce ‘lucky.’ After all, he’s made countless game-winners throughout his 17-year career. This isn’t the first time Pierce has taken a shot at young players playing NBA 2k. Schröder has yet to confirm or deny if he plays the game, but Pierce grew up without what he views as a distraction around, and believes it’s having a detrimental effect on the youth of today’s NBA.
One thing is for sure here: Whether or not Schröder feels the shot was lucky, Pierce made it, as he has time and time again. Pierce may not have called ‘bank,’ but he didn’t have to; he called game.
