Paul Pierce Talks About Kobe Bryant’s Injury: “He’s One Of My NBA Brothers”
Paul Pierce and Kobe Bryant have had their share of significant battles in the past, particularly in Pierce’s time as a Boston Celtic. In the wake of Kobe’s season-ending shoulder injury, Pierce and his Washington Wizards will face the Los Angeles Lakers tonight without his elite peer on the other side.
Pierce talked to Mark Medina of the LA Daily News about what it means to see Kobe injured again, and much more:
It always saddens me. Kobe is one of my NBA brothers,” Pierce said on Tuesday after morning shootaround at Staples Center, hours before the Lakers (12-33) will host the Wizards (30-15) here. “For him to go down with injury, it always hurts.
We’re one of the last two of our generation.
Strong words and feelings from one of Kobe’s many generational rivals. Pierce went on to talk about how this current generation lacks the girth of trash talking that he and Bryant inherited.
Time is ticking for guys like Pierce, Kobe, Garnett, Duncan, and Nowitzki, but we’ve fortunate to still see them be effective in their own capacities during this era. They’re all on their last legs, which probably heightens the respect of their relationship when they face each other on the court.
Who knows how many more times Pierce will get to face Kobe.
