Yesterday the Washington Wizards were in Boston to take on the Celtics for the first time this season. The Wizards fell short in a 101-93 loss after being down by as many as 25. Jeff Green lead the way with 25 points and 4 steals. Rondo was exceptional netting his 31st career triple double with 13 points 13 rebounds and 11 assists. At the end of the game the Celtics win didn’t really matter because the return of Paul Pierce “The Truth” was overshadowed by it.
Pierce returned to Boston for the 3rd time since being traded to the Nets after the 12-13 NBA season. Pierce got a great applause during pregame introductions. The crowd near the Wizards bench chanted his name during the third quarter.
“It’s always probably going to be weird just coming up in this arena,” he said before the game. “Even just landing in the airport and driving through the city, taking a left instead of a right into the locker room. It’s always going to be weird coming in here.“
Pierce told reporters that he, Kevin Garnett, Glen Davis, Kendrick Perkins, and Rondo all have a group text and text each other regularly. There’s that special bond that is still intact from Boston’s 2008 title team.
Pierce was also asked by a reporter if he will consider coming back to Boston after his playing career was over.
“We’ll see, said Pierce. If the opportunity presents itself, you know, maybe. If there’s an opportunity, I would love to.“
Pierce would definitely love to return to Boston and get his jersey retired to the rafters and join the likes of Larry Bird, Bill Russel, Bob Cousy, and many others to be known as Celtic for life.
