The Atlanta Hawks have had a poor start to their 2017 playoff campaign. They have lost two close games to the Washington Wizards on the road but never seemed to be in control of either game, often being bent to John Wall’s will.
Regardless of the poor start, the Hawks believe they still have a chance in the series. In fact, power forward Paul Millsap is feeling pretty confident.
Following via Chase Hughes of CSN Mid-Atlantic:
“I think they got home-court advantage. They played off of that. We’re going back to Atlanta. We feel like we’re still confident, so to us it’s 0-0.”
To an extent, Millsap is right. A 2-0 lead does not signify the end of the series even if game three is effectively a must-win for the Hawks. The Hawks have to remain confident in order to have a chance of getting back into the series.
That said, I’m not as optimistic about the Hawks’ chances. They haven’t found any way to slow down John Wall and until they do, they’re not going to be able to keep pace with Washington. It’s not impossible that they make a comeback but at this point, it’s looking pretty unlikely.
