Paul Millsap is expected to opt out of his contract this summer and explore free agency, according to NBA super reporter Adam Schefter:
Hawks F Paul Millsap expected to void contract after season, become free agent, per sources. Loves ATL, would like to stay, but will look.

Paul Millsap could void deal paying him $21.4M next season. Could get max 5-year, $207M with Hawks, or 4-year, $154M with other teams.

Millsap would be leaving a lot of money on the table by opting to go to a different team in free agency. Nevertheless, at 32 years old, Millsap may feel that it’s time to move on and join a situation in which he has a better chance of winning a championship.
The Hawks forward has been a criminally underrated player throughout his career and several teams would love to add his talents. He is a great defender and can pass and shoot as a nominal power forward. He is the perfect plug-and-play component for a team needing an extra boost to reach contending status.
The only concern with Millsap is his age. At 32 years old and probably desiring a max deal, there will be a risk for any team wanting to sign Millsap to a long-term deal. For some, the risk will be worth what he can bring in the short-term but for others, it could be a catastrophe.
It will be interesting to monitor Millsap’s situation this summer after several trade rumors had many people thinking he would be leaving Atlanta with no choice.
