The New England Patriots found themselves looking to add to their depth chart at the wide receiver positions after Julian Edelman suffered a season-ending knee injury. This lead to them to send Jacoby Brissett to the Colts for wide receiver Philip Dorsett.
The former first round pick failed to live up to the first round hype around him. He does have the speed and talent but has produced enough to warrant his draft spot up to this point. Yet if anyone can squeeze the most production out of any player it’s BIll Belichick and it doesn’t hurt having Tom Brady as your quarterback.
Jacoby Brissett showed potential starting in 2 games while Tom Brady served a suspension and Jimmy Garoppolo was out with injury, even playing one with tore thumb ligament. After a ugly preseason by Scott Tolzien the Colts clearly figured to bring in a new face under center with Luck most likely out week 1.
This trade seems a little late in the preseason for the Colts. It will give the the Pats some time to get Dorsett in the offense and he should be fine for week 1. On the other side of this its very hard to see Brissett having a full grasp on the offense in the next 8 days before the Colts opening tilt with the LA Rams.
It is a good trade on both sides, it just that the times seems odd for both. Both players should do fine on their new teams once they’re acclimated to the system and get some reps with the starters.
