The Miami Heat have been very calm and collected considering the circumstances. Their pillar is not so warm when it comes to contract negotiations. Of course I am talking about Dwyane Wade.
We all know that there is a chance of him leaving. Heat fans like myself aren’t stupid, in fact most of us are paranoid about it. Everytime somebody talks about Wade in a past tense, Heat go “What do you mean ‘dealt’?” It’s funny to me because I know Wade will be back. And I think Pat Riley is cool about it as well. It’s not like it’s his first rodeo.
“We respect him, we want him back, we want him here for the rest of his career — that’s obvious,” he said of Wade. “We’re gonna try to do everything we can do to make that happen.”
“The one thing that I’ve learned about free agency is that when a player has an opportunity to be a free agent, you give him the space and the time to think about that” he said. “We love Dwyane. Dwyane is a pillar. He has been part of the root structure and the foundation of this franchise for the last 12 years. … We know that on July 1, we’ll be the first ones that he’ll talk to and we’ll go from there.”
But hey, we can’t forget Luol Deng and Goran Dragic. Riley, ever the professional, did not forget to add them to the mini plea for all of them to band together and lead the Heat back into the Playoffs.
“We have a lot to offer here — with all of our free agents, not just Dwyane but with Goran and with Lu,” Riley said. “Everybody knows with the injuries we had last year, really I don’t think we’re a 10th-pick-in-the-draft team with the roster we can put together if healthy and contend in the East. They’re aware of that and I think players want to win.”
Now I will like to see a team offer Dwyane Wade $20 Million. You think it was amazing that Kobe got paid? Imagine Wade getting near to Kobe money and he hasn’t played for the team for all his career.
