Ten years ago this October, the first Paranormal Activity film hit theaters. It took the box office by storm, making nearly $200 million against a paltry $15k budget. Obviously, the studio immediately went to work on a franchise and made another five films, ending in 2015. They were never outright bad but, most the franchise definitely lost some steam with each installment.
Fans of the franchise have long hoped to see it return though as the films were always a fun time, at the very least. It looks like those fans are about to have their wish fulfilled as Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos announced Wednesday that another film is on the way. “We are partnering with uber horror producer Jason Blum to bring a new installment of Paranormal Activity,” Gianopulos shared on stage at CineEurope.
Unfortunately, though, nothing’s known about the film yet. With 6 total films in the franchise already, I doubt we’ll be getting a reboot or anything like that. At most, I could see Blumhouse opting to go the route of last year’s Halloween and only ignore some of the less well-received installments in the series.
Paranormal Activity 7 has yet to receive a release date.
