Just days after the Carolina Panthers released Charles Johnson it appears he will be heading back to Carolina after all. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reveled Johnson’s plans to return to the team, while ESPN’s Josina Anderson announced it would be a one year deal.
After taking visits with the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Bucs, Johnson decided to stick with the Panthers. New York’s decision to sign Jason Pierre-Paul may of had something to do with this. The 29 year old vet was scheduled to make 16 million in 2016 prior to his release. That number figures to be significantly lower after returning to Carolina. In fact he turned down more lucrative offers elsewhere as he will make $3 million this season.
The former draft pick from Georgia has been a very reliable pass rusher recording at least 8.5 sacks from 2010-2014. Last season he found himself on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. The play of Kony Ealy made him expendable.
