Martellus Bennett came into the 2017 NFL Free Agency period as probably the most sought after tight end if not one of the top pass catchers on the market. He had a strong season with the New England Patriots that ended in him securing a Super Bowl ring. So what was next up for Martellus? Free agency and finding a new home.
After reportedly garnering interest from a multitude of teams, including the New York Giants, Bennett decided to leave one quarterback that wears number 12 and join another quarterback that wears number 12. He’s heading to the Green Bay Packers.
Adam Schefter of ESPN first reported the agreement.

And Bennett himself confirmed the news on his Instagram.
Martellus Bennett just wrapped up his four-year, $20.4 million contract that included $5.215 million guaranteed and made a base salary of $5.085 million for the 2016 season. Bennett appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots in 2016. He caught 55 passes for 701 yards receiving and hauled in seven touchdowns primarily playing in an expanded role due to Rob Gronkowski’s injury issues. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 10 tight end out of 63 qualifying players.
How did Aaron Rodgers react to the news? Well, as you would expect.
