James Starks was scheduled to make $3 million in 2017. The Packers said no thanks releasing him today in order to create some salary cap space. ESPN’s Field Yates had the details of the transaction.

Starks will be healthy once the season starts but did end the season on concussion protocol just to clear up the injury designation. The concussion came at the hands of a car crash rather than playing football.
The Packers will have a thin backfield heading into 2017 with Christine Michael and Eddie Lacy headed for free agency. The only other option on the roster is converted receiver Ty Montgomery who did play running back in college despite what the media has been portraying.
Starks will turn 31 later this month which usually is the beginning of the end for any halfback. Starks, a 7-year veteran, rushed for 145 yards off of 63 carries. His 2.3 yards per rush was a career low for him.
