“We are aware of a serious matter involving Letroy Guion. We have not yet spoken to Letroy and we will have no further comment,” that’s all the Green Bay Packers organization had to say after finding out that the defensive tackle had been arrested Tuesday night. Guion, a former fifth round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2008, had a career year for the Packers after B.J. Raji went down in the pre season. The 315 pound tackle was trying to negotiate his 32 tackles and three and a half sacks into a long term deal.
Guion was arrested in his hometown of Starke, Florida. Initially he was pulled over for, ” failure to maintain a single lane,” according to police. Then upon approaching his vehicle the officers smelled marijuana. When police decided to search his car Guion apparently told them he was carrying a fire arm that he had a permit for. The officer that searched his car not only found the weapon, but also found $190,028.81 in cash and 357 grams of marijuana(for us Americans that’s 12.59 ounces or .78705 lbs.). ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan was told by a knowledgeable source that Guion’s gun was registered in Minnesota and that the money was from cashed paychecks which could be verified through recent bank statements. That would just leave the matter of the Marijuana possession. In Florida possession of more than 20 grams is a 3rd degree felony which has a maximum penalty of 5 years in jail and a $5000 fine. Should Guion receive a punishment that is significantly less than this, it remains to be seen how the Packers or the NFL will handle his case.
