With an eight point lead and the momentum the Dallas Cowboys defense was looking to put an end to another Green Bay drive late in the third quarter of Sundays Divisional Round playoff game. However, on third and fifteen a Packers wide receiver stepped up to make a play. Davante Adams gained a step on Sterling Moore to catch a strike over the middle from Aaron Rodgers. Adams then broke away from the defense to score a forty six yard touchdown to bring the cheese heads within one point of the tie.
The play was a huge momentum swing as the Packers would go on to score the go ahead touchdown on their next possession after being stymied by a stingy Dallas defense since Aaron Rodgers’ fumble early in the second quarter. Adams would later make a key third down grab with two minutes and thirty six seconds left for twenty six yards to help Green Bay finish off the Cowboys and win the game. Adams would finish the game with six receptions for a team leading 117 yards and a touchdown. Although this is not his first big game this season, as Adams has recorded 7 receptions in a regular season contest verse the Saints and a six reception one hundred twenty one yard performance against the Patriots in November, this game marks the rookies first big performance under the spot light.
With powerhouse wide receivers Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb already on the outside, Adams provides a new challenge for opposing defenses to overcome. Adams is a young player that shows a lot of promise. He is a good possession type receiver with great leaping ability and can easily become key contributor on a star studded Packers offense. With this big time performance look for the Packers offense to become even more potent as defenses will have to start accounting for his production on the field freeing up Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. He may even get a shot as the number two receiver if the Packers can’t work out a new deal with Cobb as he enters his the final year of his rookie contract at the start of the 2015 season.
