Its still hasn’t turned a profit. It took a pretty penny to make and it came with a high marketing cost, but it still might get a sequel?
EmpireOnline is reporting that due to success in the international market, a ‘Pacific Rim’ sequel might be in the works.
‘Pacific Rim’ is duly noted as one of 2013’s big budget box office bombs in the US. The film has only made $87 million domestically, well under the $190 million it took to make the film. But it seems foreign audiences can’t get enough of the alien/robot action film. The film has brought in $140 million internationally and received a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
If a sequel does bubble up to the surface, there will probably be a bigger marketing emphasis on the Chinese since they embraced the film.
