Former NBA guard Pablo Prigioni took to Twitter to announce his retirement from basketball on Monday morning.
Prigioni was waived by the Houston Rockets at the beginning of this season, and continued his career by signing with Spanish team Saski Baskonia.
Prigioni didn’t arrive in the NBA until 2012 when he – at the age of 35 – became the oldest rookie in NBA history.
Prigioni spent two full seasons with the Knicks as a contributing role player and sometimes starting point guard. In the midst of his third season in New York, Prigioni was traded to the Houston Rockets in exchange for guard Alexey Shved and two first-round picks.
Then, the summer after that season (2014-15), the Rockets traded Prigioni as part of a package to acquire Ty Lawson from the Denver Nuggets. Prigioni was waived by the Nuggets immediately. He then signed with the Clippers, and played with them for the 2015-16 season.
In the Summer of 2016, Prigioni signed with the Rockets and played five preseason games with Houston before being waived. He then signed overseas. Now, he is retiring.
Prigioni was a crafty, experienced veteran despite his lack of NBA experience. He was a high-IQ player and a good shooter. Most importantly, Prigioni was a fine professional who will be missed by the basketball community.
For his NBA career, Prigioni averaged 3.5 points, 2.8 assists, 1.9 rebounds and one steal per game while shooting 42.5% from the field, 37.9% from three-point range, and 87.2% from the foul line.
