In 2017, Jason Bateman made a strong entrance into Netflix fandom with the first season of Ozark. The dark, crime drama revolving around a Chicago financial planner’s attempts to pay off a Mexican drug lord received critical acclaim. After watching the first season, Sonia Saraiya of Variety wrote, “Ozark does not feel predictable or slow, and if it does suffer a bit from a very gray color palette and a reliance on prestige tropes, which both presumably signify “seriousness,” it comes together under Bateman’s disarming and deceptively complex performance as Marty. He’s not sympathetic, but he’s not a villain either; he’s not good, but he’s not as bad as he could be.”
Today, fans of Ozark got their first look at season two of the Netflix drama. Released earlier today, the forty second trailer gives flashes of the new season with a voice over that says, “We’ve done lots of things, things we said we would never do.” Later on in the trailer, you can hear Bateman’s chracter, Byrde, responding to those voices by saying, “People make choices, Wendy. Choices have consequences.” The trailer definitely gives the vibe of a Netflix series that hasn’t lost a step.
Season two of Ozark will premiere August 31st on Netflix with the addition of season two newcomer, Janet McTeer. Catch up on the first season before season two hits Netflix.
