Outlander has been renewed for a second season on Starz!
The time-travel drama will return next year with more episodes, and the new season will be based on the second instalation of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novels, Dragonfly in Amber.
Starz has yet to announce an official episode count for the second season, but has promised there will be “at least 13 episodes.”
The newtork said that the show’s debut season attracted over 5 million in ratings, with equal male and female viewership.
Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said this of the show:
“The overwhelming support Outlander has received from the fans, viewers and critcs made the decision for us to ahead with the second book a very easy one.
Diana Gabaldon has given us years of great drama. With an incredible artist such as Ronald D. Moore at the helm and a cast as spectacular as this, we look forward to continue this spell-binding journey with Claire, Jamie, Frank, Brianna, Roger and everybody over the centuries.”
Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe led the cast, which follows a combat nurse [Balfe] from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743.
